Reimbursement of Tuition from Health Insurance
Thanks to the clinical component of Wellspring Pennsylvania which represents a significant portion of tuition cost, many Wellspring families succeed in receiving reimbursement of approximately 1/4 to 1/3 of the tuition from their health insurance.
This is due to the fact that the clinical component of Wellspring Pennsylvania includes a psychological assessment and four cognitive-behavioral counseling sessions per week. These services represent a portion of the total cost of tuition, and may be reimbursed by health insurance.
Initial psychological assessment and four weekly cognitive-behavioral sessions can be categorized as either “mental health” or “health” (“medical”) treatments and reimbursements vary depending upon provider, plan, and benefits.
Typically, families with PPO plans are more likely to receive reimbursement for a portion of the clinical component of the program (as much as $2,000 for a 4-week session, and $1,500 for a second 4-week session). Families with HMO's should generally not expect to receive reimbursement, though we encourage families to advocate for their children's health whenever possible.
Although most families successfully recoup a significant portion of the cost of the program from their health insurance, Wellspring Pennsylvania cannot guarantee that your policy will cover these costs, as there are many types of health insurance policies with varying benefits.
Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account
If you have a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA), you should be able to use this account – and these pre-tax dollars – to pay for most of the cost of Wellspring (i.e., the entire cost, less the cost of food and lodging). Because each Wellspring program has slightly different food and lodging expenses, please contact Wellspring to receive an invoice that breaks out lodging and food from total tuition and fees.
Loans to Spread the Cost of Payment over Months or Years
Understanding how critical weight loss is to their child’s health, many Wellspring Pennsylvania families seek financing in order to split the cost of a Wellspring program into manageable monthly payments. While some families choose to refinance their home or borrow money from family members, many others take advantage of a special loan program arranged with Bank of Lake Mills. These loans are similar to a college loan.
As a division of CRC Health, the nation’s largest provider of specialized behavioral health services, Wellspring is able to offer the loan program to families enrolling their child in Wellspring Camps or Wellspring Academies. Loans are available to cover the entire cost of the program, including tuition, fees and transportation to and from the program.
Eligibility for the loan program is based on a number of factors, including credit score and debt to income ratio. Unlike many other loan programs, applying for this loan will not negatively impact your credit rating. Please call us at 866.364.0808, or by email at admissions@wellspringcamps.com and we’ll guide you through the loan qualification process.

Below are Wellspring Pennsylvania’s Refundable Fees:
Family Workshop: $300 Refunded in full if family attends Workshop
Year-round Continuing Care Program: $600 Refunded in full based on meeting two criteria:
- Camper completes 140 out of 180 days of self-monitoring (3 food items with fat and calories recorded per day)
- Parent (or camper) obtains a verified height and weight and provides this form back to Wellspring via mail, fax, or email.
Note: Because research has demonstrated the importance of participation in the Family Workshop and compliance with the Continuing Care Program for continued weight loss after returning home, Wellspring will refund the full cost of both to families who support their child in these ways.
